US Venceremos Brigade in Cuba
The 45th contingent of the Venceremos Brigade of solidarity of the US people with Cuba was welcomed yesterday by authorities from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
During the welcoming ceremony at the Julio Antonio Mella international camp, in western Artemisa province, Vice President of ICAP, Fernando Gonzalez, highlighted the presence here of the Brigade in spite of travel restrictions as a result of the embargo imposed on Cuba by the United States for over 50 years.
Gonzalez also extoled their support expressed through several actions to the struggle for the Cuban Five unfairly held in US prisons since 1998.
“On behalf of the Cuban Five I would like to extend the appreciation for the solidarity and support shown to this cause,” said Fernando, also a Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
On behalf of all members of the Venceremos Brigade, Us Rita Kamani described the stay in Cuba as a solidarity experience.
“We are here in solidarity with the Cuban people and against travel restrictions and the US economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States,” she said.
