Arkansas Senate Approves Cuba Trade Resolution

This week, the Arkansas State Senate approved a resolution related to agricultural trade with Cuba.  Lead sponsors were Representative David Hillman in the House and Senator Eddie Joe Williams in the Senate.  The resolution was also sponsored by the Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees.

The resolution, HCR 1006, encourages the President, Congress, and the Arkansas Congressional Delegation to work to restore trade relations with Cuba.  Cuba holds great economic potential and opportunity for Arkansas agriculture, especially as it relates to rice and poultry products.  Both commodities are important food sources for the Cuban people, and the United States has a transportation and logistical advantage to competitive markets due to the island nation’s proximity to the Gulf Coast.

The Resolution was previously approved by the House and will now be submitted to the White House, Congress, and the Arkansas Congressional Delegation.
