Senator King wants to restore trade with Cuba
Maine Senator Angus King wants to allow U.S. businesses to export their goods to Cuba. King and Republican Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas have introduced a bill that would re-open trade with Cuba.
The independent senator said that American businesses and the Cuban people have suffered because of the “antiquated trade embargo.” He says that Congress needs to help bring the U.S.’s relationship with Cuba into the 21st Century.
King’s office says that the bill would also allow American financial institutions to extend credit to Cuba. Federal taxpayer funds would remain off-limits for trade promotion and market development in the island nation.
King is also backing another bill that would loosen travel restrictions to Cuba, among other things.
